How to deposit tokens to Optimism

Transfer funds from Ethereum Layer 1 to OΞ Layer 2 to trade with lower fees and near-instant transactions.

 

Beta Release: the Uniswap protocol on Optimism is currently in beta release. Before depositing, please read our blog post to evaluate the risks associated with this early-stage network.

 

You can transfer assets from Layer 1 Ethereum to Layer 2 OΞ through the Optimism Gateway.

 

Deposits will arrive in your wallet within 5 minutes so you can start trading on the Uniswap protocol with low fees right away.

 

To deposit funds to Optimism

  1. Open the Optimism Gateway. If this is your first visit, please read the disclaimer message carefully.

     

  2. Click Connect and select your wallet. You should be connected to Ethereum L1 Mainnet at this step.

    If your wallet isn't working, it's possible that it does not support Optimism yet (learn more).

     

  3. Select the token you would like to deposit. Note that Optimism only supports a limited set of tokens at launch and will add more over time.

  4. Enter the amount of tokens you wish to deposit from Layer 1 to Layer 2.

  5. Click the Deposit button.

     

  6. Read the disclaimer and click Deposit again.

     

  7. Confirm the transaction in your wallet. Note that this is a Layer 1 transaction so normal gas fees will apply.

    However, after this one-time deposit you will experience the joy of lower gas fees on OΞ.

     

  8. Watch your transaction be confirmed by the network within a few minutes.

 

That’s it! Your funds should be available on OΞ within about five minutes — the time required for your transaction to be confirmed on Layer 1.
