What are token categories?

Token categories help you explore and discover tokens in the Uniswap Interfaces.

Token categories group tokens by characteristics and market behavior to make it easier to learn about them. You may see category labels while browsing Explore, searching for tokens, choosing a token to swap, or viewing a token's detail page. Categories group tokens by asset (like stablecoins or tokenized stocks), sector (like DeFi or gaming), or market activity (like Trending Now or Top Gainers). Token categories are not investment advice or recommendations on a particular token. Do your own research before purchasing any token.

Where can I see token categories?

  • Explore: Filter the token list by category to see only the tokens in that group.
  • Category pages: Select a category to see all of its tokens, along with stats like 24-hour volume and the number of holders.
  • Token detail pages: Every category a token belongs to is listed at the top of the page. Select a category to see similar tokens.
  • Search and the token selector: A category label may appear next to a token to help you tell similar-looking tokens apart.

Can a token be in more than one category?

Yes. A token can belong to several categories at once. For example, a token could be both a Major and a Meme. In search, the token selector, and Explore, you'll usually see just one label to keep things simple. You can see every category a token belongs to on its token detail page.

Categories can also change over time. Categories based on trading activity, like Trending Now, New, Top Gainers, and Top Losers, update frequently, so a token may appear in a category one day and not the next.

How are token categories created?

Token categories are created using a combination of Uniswap Protocol trading data and information from CoinGecko. Categories based on trading activity (Majors, Trending Now, New, Top Gainers, and Top Losers) use Uniswap Protocol data. Categories based on what a token is or what it's connected to (Stocks, ETFs, Commodities, Stablecoins, AI, DeFi, Gaming, and Memes) use CoinGecko's classifications.

To help protect you from scam and spam tokens, categories only include tokens that don't have a token warning from Blockaid. Tokens showing signs of artificially inflated trading volume are also left out.

Uniswap Labs does not guarantee the accuracy of token categories and makes no representations or warranties about their relevance or currentness. Data may not be available for selected tokens, particularly newer or less popular tokens, and no tokens are reviewed for their quality, merits, or soundness as investments. CoinGecko and Blockaid are not affiliates of Uniswap Labs, and Uniswap Labs does not independently verify information they provide.
